This Acceptable Use Policy is part of our Terms of Service. It exists mostly to state one rule clearly: only scan what you're allowed to scan.
The core rule
You may use Torva only against systems you own or are expressly authorized to test. Verifying a domain is your confirmation that you have that authorization. Submitting any target you are not authorized to scan is a serious violation and may also break the law.
You must not
- Scan, probe, or attempt to test any domain, host, or network you do not own or have written permission to test.
- Use the Service to attack, disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to any system.
- Use results from the Service to exploit or harm any system, or to extort any person or organization.
- Attempt to bypass domain verification, scan-scope controls, rate limits, or other safeguards.
- Resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties except as expressly permitted.
- Interfere with the Service, or access it by automated means beyond what we provide, in a way that harms Torva or other users.
- Use the Service in violation of any applicable law, including computer-misuse and anti-hacking laws.
The free instant check
The free instant check reads only public information about a domain and performs no active scanning. You should still run it only on domains you have a legitimate interest in.
Enforcement
We may investigate suspected violations and may suspend or terminate access immediately, remove content, and cooperate with law enforcement where appropriate. Unauthorized scanning is grounds for immediate termination.
