How to verify your domain for Torva Edge

Before Torva Edge scans your systems, you prove you control the domain. This protects you and everyone else: it means nobody can point a scanner at a network they don't own. Here are the three ways to do it, from quickest to most flexible.

Option 1: DNS TXT record (recommended)

This is the strongest proof and the one IT teams usually find easiest. In your Edge dashboard, copy the verification value we show you, then add a TXT record at your DNS provider:

Type:  TXT
Host:  _torva   (or _torva.example.com)
Value: torva-verify=7f3a91c2b4...

Save it, wait a few minutes for DNS to update, then click Verify. Leaving the record in place lets us re-verify automatically over time.

Option 2: Upload a file

If you'd rather not touch DNS, download the small verification file from your dashboard and upload it to your website so it's reachable at:

https://example.com/.well-known/torva-verify.txt

Then click Verify. This works well when you control the website but DNS is managed elsewhere.

Option 3: Email to an admin address

We can send a verification link to a recognized administrative mailbox at your domain, such as admin@, webmaster@, hostmaster@, or postmaster@. Whoever controls that mailbox clicks the link to confirm. This is the same standard certificate authorities use.

Troubleshooting

• DNS not detected yet: changes can take from a few minutes to an hour. Confirm the record with a lookup tool, then retry.
• Wrong host name: some providers append your domain automatically. If _torva.example.com.example.com appears, enter just _torva.
• File returns 404: make sure it's served over HTTPS and not blocked by a rule for the .well-known folder.

What happens after verification

Once verified, Edge can run on-demand and scheduled scans for that domain. We also send each report to the address that verified it, so the real owner always knows a scan ran. If your domain changes hands, we periodically re-verify to keep that guarantee true.
